A Neat Night

A few nights ago I attended an event for Children's Mercy at Screenland in downtown KC--My best friend Nicki served as professional consultant on a new film project to provide child burn victims with a tool to help friends, families and classmates understand what they have been through. She has been the Child Life Specialist (the field in which I hold a bachelor's degree in) on the burn unit at the hospital for nearly 8 years.

I was very proud to watch this project come to fruition for her and fun to watch her play a role in the film as well! Isaac Alongi, a Kansas City photographer, filmed the movie--something I was also proud to witness as a fellow photographer. Good photography is always nice to see!

Also at the theater, there is a fairly large display of work by Orval Hixon--at which I was blown away! The photographs were all taken from 1910-1930 and true reminders of eternal beauty and classic photographic art.

You can see the work yourself at www.orvalhixon.com

His use of lighting is spectacular and you can feel the souls of the individuals he photographed.

It was a neat night--watching a great film in a field I feel passionate about, proud to have a great friend, and also find photographic inspriation!
